We have chosen to deliver our resources online as we believe that this represents the most engaging experience for our students, plus tracks all data and assignments to ensure that parents, teachers and tutors can be as involved or hands-off as they choose. Online learning is reliable, effective, personalised and, most importantly, fun! Not to mention the fact that learning can happen whenever and wherever a student would like.
However, progress in technology is rapid with new devices and access options appearing on a daily basis. A small investment of time to ensure that you are using the most up-to-date version of our iOS app and the best settings for this will ensure that EdPlace continues to work as intended for you with absolutely no hiccups!
We regularly release new versions of our apps to ensure that you have the best experience using them. Most devices will have automatic updates turned ON so that when we release a new version, this will automatically update on your device. However, it is easy to check that you are using the most recent version of our app.
If you are using an Apple device, open the iOS App Store and tap on the account icon in the upper right-hand corner of the screen (which looks like a person). Scroll down to see 'Available app updates'. Tap 'UPDATE' next to your EdPlace app if it appears here. When the app has been updated, it will say 'OPEN' next to it and the date it was updated.
Apps are specifically designed to make our lives as easy as possible, so there are certain automatic settings that may give students too much of a helping hand with their EdPlace work if they are not disabled. Where possible, we try to 'train' our system to work around these features but this is not always possible, so students will have the best experience on the EdPlace iOS app if some features are disabled using the following steps.
First, find the 'Settings' icon on the homepage of your Apple device (looks like a zoomed-in cog system);
Scroll down to 'General';
Find the 'Keyboard;
Check Spelling (Provides a list of suggested possibilities for spellings but it won’t automatically change anything);
Auto-Correction (Automatically makes or suggests corrections for mistakes in spelling or grammar made while typing);
Find the setting next to these two options and slide this from 'On' (default, green) to 'Off' (grey).
While you are here, you may also want to review and turn off any other keyboard settings that may give your student an advantage (e.g. 'Auto-Capitalisation', 'Predictive', etc.)
Depending on your Apple device, these steps may be slightly different. If you need help, search for 'How to enable or disable auto-correction on iOS' on your search engine to locate more specific advice for your chosen device, or contact our friendly Customer Support Team.
As a user yourself or for your student, you may also consider activating and using iCloud Keychain (which remembers and automatically provides your username and password for any apps or websites which you choose) for quick and easy access to EdPlace:
First, find the 'Settings' icon on the homepage of your Apple device (looks like a zoomed-in cog system);
Tap on your Apple ID username at the top of your page;
Scroll down to 'iCloud';
Find 'Keychain' and ensure that this is set to 'On >';
If it is not, click on the arrow to flip it from Off to On.
Now that iCloud Keychain is enabled, you can start to use it. Head over to the EdPlace app. Since you don’t have any information stored on Keychain just yet, you’ll need to type in your username and password for manually logging in. As you log in, an iCloud Keychain pop-up will appear. Tap 'Save Password' to store your log in information on iCloud Keychain.
Depending on your Apple device, these steps may be slightly different. If you need help, search for 'How to iCloud keychain on iOS' on your search engine to locate more specific advice for your chosen device, or contact our friendly Customer Support Team.
We hope this article provides all the information you need to check your app is up-to-date, update to the most current version (if required), use the optimal settings and get learning on EdPlace!
