When you initially created your parent account on EdPlace, you were asked to create a username and password so that we could ensure that your student's data is recorded and presented accurately, plus that your account is kept totally secure.
The difficulty with using any apps is that, once you are logged in, an app can easily stay running in the background of your phone or device and you may not be aware. Only when you actively log out of the EdPlace app or close down the session, will you be logged out. This is a different experience to using our website, where you need to log in with your username and password every time.
Therefore, to enhance security and ease of use, we have added a passcode feature to our parent app which becomes active upon logging in or when the EdPlace app has not been closed but there has been a period of inactivity. This way we can be sure that your device has not been stolen or lost and someone else is trying to access your EdPlace account, or that your device has not been picked up by your child. Also, a short-form numerical passcode is standard practice on apps as it is much easier to log in quickly and easily in this way.
When setting up your passcode, you will be shown a screen like this:
You can then choose any four-digit passcode which you will find easy to remember. Once confirmed, this will be stored as your passcode moving forwards.
You do have an option to 'Skip' at this stage but we do not recommend this, as your account will be less secure as a result. Also, you will need to log in with your full username and password every time if you choose this option.
Each time you log in or after a period of inactivity, you will be asked to re-enter this same passcode:
If you ever forget the passcode you have set up, you can click on 'Forgot password?' to be redirected to log in with your longer web account username and password instead.
If you would like to turn the passcode option OFF in your app, click on the menu in your EdPlace app (three horizontal lines), then 'Account' and you will see the option to switch turn this off under 'Security':
We hope that using a personal passcode to access your parent account on our iOS app will make logging in, reviewing your child's progress, and assigning work to them an absolute breeze! Plus, it has the added benefit of keeping your parent account super-secure.
