At EdPlace, we know that learning is a personal experience and there's not a 'one size fits all' approach when it comes to what works best for us as individuals. To allow for even greater learning personalisation, we've added our accessibility toolbar into your account so you can tailor it to your specific preferences in order to help you reach your full potential!
There are two ways of accessing the toolbar. You can access the toolbar by logging into your student account and clicking on the 'Accessibility' tab which is located on your dashboard:
If you make changes here, then they will be saved and applied every time you log into the EdPlace website.
Alternatively, you can access the toolbar while in a specific activity by selecting the accessibility icon that appears in the middle on the right-hand side of the screen:
Doing this will only customise the view for the specific activity you are currently working on.
When you load the toolbar, you will see these options:
Below is a summary of each feature and how you can use each to best support your learning:
Adaptable font size
You can decrease and increase the size of the font to make it easier to read.
9 different font options
You can choose from 9 different font types to select the one you find easiest to read.
Ability to change the background colour
You can change the colour of the background and the fonts to support with reading.
Reading ruler
The reading ruler function underlines text to make it easier to read a single line at a time.
Reading window
The reading window is similar to the ruler but blocks out all other text - which option do you prefer?
Dictionary
You can now highlight and click on any word to find out its definition.
Translate
You can now translate the text you read into a different language of your choice if this makes it easier for you to learn and understand.
Plain text mode
You can remove the images in an activity and just view the questions if you prefer.
Magnifier
By using the magnifier, you can click and drag the magnifying glass to magnify any element shown on your screen.
User guide
This is the user guide button which will give you an overview of the toolbar and how to use it.
Read aloud and volume
With these features available for use in every activity, you'll be able to customise the audio so that the text is read to you at your preferred volume level. These buttons can be found with the accessibility icon on the right-hand side of every page and question within all EdPlace activities.
Please note, some of these features are only available when accessing the student account via our website, and all of these features will work best in this mode. For this reason, we recommend that you log in via our website, rather than our apps, if these accessibility features are important for your learning success.
We hope that these features will enable you to make the most out of your learning with EdPlace.
