EdPlace resources are designed to support students throughout their entire academic journey from Year 1 to GCSE. This includes helping to prepare them for the key milestones and exams along the way, like the Year 6 SATs.
We know that these milestones can be a major source of anxiety and stress for teachers, parents and students alike - which is why we're here to support you with just-right revision resources for the SATs!
Using EdPlace throughout students' academic journeys will ensure that they have the foundational skills solid and secure in order to build on for exam readiness. We follow a three-stage approach to help best prepare students for the SATs - Learn, Practise, Test:
Our approach to revision at EdPlace can be found underpinning all areas for examination. We believe that a 'slow and steady' approach to revision ensures students feel prepared, confident and ready to tackle the tests. Hot-housing is not an approach that we advocate (although we know sometimes this can be a student's preferred method!).
There are three types of revision activities available to students sitting the SATs examination:
1) Resources: By using these National-Curriculum-aligned resources on a regular basis, a student can see their understanding develop and be confident that they have the breadth of understanding needed to feel exam-ready;
2) Exam-style questions: Once a student feels they have grasped the understanding of a key topic, we believe they should put this to the test in a short focused activity which provides the hardest level of challenge, often with real-life timings to simulate exam conditions;
3) Practice papers: Exam preparation is key to confidence, and it's important students have had the opportunity to replicate the experience as closely as possible, including modelling timed conditions and completing activities that represent the same length as the real exam.
Our Year 6 SATs revision-focused activities are located in their own easy-to-find area with our year 6 'Revision' activities in English, maths and science.
To find them and assign activities to your students, log in to your educator account at www.edplace.com/teacher then select 'Browse and assign' in the left-hand menu of your teacher dashboard. Find 'Year 6' and then click on the 'Revision' tab. Here you will be able to toggle between the 'Exam-style questions' and 'Practice papers' listings:
Within every student account, they can move between 'Learn' and 'Revise' on our website within each year and subject, depending on what type of activity they are looking for:
On our app, students will need to select 'Browse' then find the subject in the top menu, then 'Year 6', to see the 'Revision' section shown like this:
We have recently enhanced our three-stage model shown above with an additional 'Assessment' stage so that teachers and students can really understand how to target their revision and maximise the time available to revise. We do have Year 6 assessments available under the 'Assessment' tab for English, maths and science, which also provide an excellent starting point when trying to understand a student's strengths and weaknesses in subject understanding.
