There may be periods of time when your child will need to take a break from attending school and continue their learning successfully from home. We know that this can cause a lot of stress and anxiety for parents but, don't worry, we are here to help! From the start of school closures due to the pandemic in March 2020, we have been working hard to increase our support for parents and students at home.
Here's how we can help your child keep learning at home...
Personalised recommendations
Our EdPlace student account has been specifically designed to track and respond to the individual needs of your child. So if your child starts to complete more work, the number of activities recommended to them on EdPlace will automatically increase accordingly, without any input or pressure on you. These recommendations will be tailored to what your child should be covering at school, but also their own personal areas of strength and areas to work on, so that you know they are progressing their skills and understanding at home. Visibility on your child's progress and needs
Alongside our smart recommendations, we provide clear visibility to you on how your child is progressing and where they may need more support. You can then choose to assign additional work to them, based on this feedback or advice from school. When your child returns to school, you can easily share their progress data with their teacher so they know what has been achieved at home. Dynamic assessments
Our range of dynamic assessments aren't about succeeding or failing, but rather improving your visibility of your child’s understanding throughout their academic journey. At the end of each assessment, you will be able to view and download a report which gives easy-to-read traffic light visuals of different areas within the assessment. The next step is for you to assign activities from our library under the 'browse and assign' tab based on what they need to work on most. The assessment can then be re-taken after they've had more time to practise before you can then assess their progress over that period of time. The reporting criteria will remain the same but the assessment itself pulls randomly from question banks so that you can really have confidence in the results. Weekly lessons
We increased our advice offering and introduced a weekly lesson for each Key Stage in English, maths and science during the first Covid-19 lockdown, and these are still available to you now. Like all our content, these lessons were written by teachers! They present the lessons as video tutorials tackling the well-known problem areas which children often struggle with. In the written articles which accompany each video, our teachers break topics into five steps, model questions and explain key teaching tips, with the aim of empowering you to support your child’s learning at home. Your child can then independently practise their new skills in relevant activities on our website or apps. You can access all our at-home resources by visiting: https://www.edplace.com/blog/tag/homeschooling/. Scroll down on this page and you will notice a selection of coloured boxes. Each of these will link to a specific at-home activity or lesson. Click on a coloured box with a title that interests you. You can now view the lesson along with the video. Below the video, there will be a list of related activities. Click on any of these activities to assign them to your child's account and, there you have it, happy home learning!
We hope that this article has given you the advice you need to use EdPlace at home to support your child to keep learning during any breaks in their school attendance.
