At EdPlace, we believe that if students can see the progress they are making in their learning, it becomes easier for them to stay on track, feel motivated and feel proud of their achievements!
For this reason, we offer hundreds of badges across all the years and subjects that are awarded in the student account.
Each badge represents a particular achievement, whether that’s getting a great score on all the activities in a single topic area, or re-attempting an activity to improve confidence and skills.
When a badge is visible but greyed out, a student will be working towards it. When it becomes coloured then it's been achieved!
Within the apps or on the website, a quick snapshot of every student's personal badges will always be shown on their homepage every time they log in:
To view all student badges in more detail, log into your educator account on the website (at www.edplace.com/teacher) and click on 'Badges' in the left-hand menu. Here, you can use the two dropdown filters to explore the badges visible to a particular student or in a particular curriculum year:
With the exception of bonus badges, all badges will have three possible levels of achievement; bronze, silver and gold:
There are four categories of badges to work towards; Subject Badges, Topic Badges, Curriculum Badges and Bonus Badges.
Each subject badge demonstrates mastery of the entire range of activities in a single subject. They’re the hardest to achieve but the most satisfying!
Curriculum Badges (pictured above) are awarded when a student has completed every activity in a single National Curriculum area. These can be quite broad, so students will have to cover a wide range of topics.
Topic Badges are awarded when a student has completed activities that cover a single topic or skill area.
Bonus Badges are not given away often, but we hope they'll provide additional recognition when your students are least expecting it! They reward steady progress and hard work, as well as getting top marks.
Most badges are specific to the school year each student is in, so they could earn the same badge in different years. Within each student's personal 'Badges' page, they will see a dropdown menu in the top right. Their homepage will be the school year they are currently in, which has been converted to a level, but if they have been doing work from other years, they can click on this dropdown to see past badges earned in other years too:
Similarly, past badges awarded are visible in your educator's account, if you change the dropdown year group next to each individual student's name (see visual above).
When a student is awarded a badge, they will be notified on their homepage and this achievement is also recorded on their timeline. (To learn more about the student timeline function, please click here.)
You will also be notified of this event on your educator's dashboard under the 'Notifications' tab:
